Comcast Demonstrates Trust In One Company Provides Returns

By Rachel Smith

One of the best things that the cable TV company Comcast has done for its customers lately is to offer them the option of combining high speed Internet access and a home phone line on the same monthly bill as their digital cable TV service. This bundling of services provides a number of advantages both for Comcast as well as its customers. The advantage to Comcast is that its customers are spending money on its high speed Internet and home phone services rather than high speed Internet and home phone services from other companies. Comcast's customers benefit from the convenience of having all three of these essential services itemized on a single monthly bill- with only one check to write- and receiving a discount in exchange for buying their telecommunications services in bulk from one company.

Besides convenience, getting your home telecommunications services from Comcast has technological benefits as well. For example, there's really no point of shopping around for a high speed Internet service other than the broad band cable based one that's offered by Comcast. That's because broad band cable is the fastest form of high speed Internet that's widely available for use in private homes. Plus, since it takes advantage of the same cable that delivers the TV programming there's no question about its availability if you already have digital cable TV service from Comcast. Comcast also offers a number of bonus features like a wireless router to turn your house into a WiFi hot spot.

The same types of things can be said to be true when it comes to the digital phone service that Comcast offers. It includes all of the major call management tools like caller ID, voice mail, and call waiting that people have come to rely on over the years, but does so at no extra cost. Comcast's basic calling plan also includes unlimited long distance within North America.

Of course, other telecommunications companies offer bundled service packages as well, but many of them fall short of the ideal service that Comcast provides. For one thing, relatively few telecommunications companies have the technical expertise to provide TV service, high speed Internet access, and a home phone line. In order to get around this lack of technical expertise, many telecom companies have contracts with each other to combine their services for customers. This way, you can sign up for TV service with one company and it can still hook you up with high speed Internet service and home phone service, but they'll be provided by a separate phone company and or a satellite Internet company.

While its still nice to get a single bill and a discount, it also opens up the possibility that the customer will have a lot more headaches when it comes to getting anything accomplished in the area of customer service. In short, the bundled service packages offered by these companies are probably better than nothing, but certainly fall short of Comcast's level of service.

While it can be argued that putting all of your eggs into one basket is a bad idea, that sentiment doesn't really apply when it comes to bundled telecommunications services. Especially when the bundle comes from a company like Comcast. - 17285
