Comcast Makes Quality High Speed Internet Affordable

By Rachel Smith

Shopping for a high speed Internet service for your home can be a rigorous experience. This shouldn't be surprising given the tremendous range of high speed Internet technologies that are available to you and the different level of service that many of them have.

In order to get the best high speed Internet service though, you can simply go with a broad band cable based connection from a company like Comcast. Broad band cable high speed Internet is the type of connection to go with if it's at all possible for you because of the fact that it offers superior features and value to any other type of Internet technology.

There are lots of good examples of this. For example, it's possible to get an Internet connection that's marketed as high speed, but isn't particularly fast. DSL and satellite Internet are two such Internet connection technologies. Both can only go up to about two or three megabytes per second in download speed as compared to the eight megabytes per second that can be delivered with Comcast's broad band cable high speed Internet. In addition to that advantage, broad band cable high speed Internet offers a superior kind of connection to either DSL or satellite Internet. DSL is based on phone lines which are subject to much more signal degradation and are generally much less reliable than coaxial cables. The satellite signal that a satellite Internet connection is based on has a great deal of problems of its own. Since satellite signals have to travel through the atmosphere twice, they can be disrupted by atmospheric interference on either end. Another problem with satellite technology when it comes to providing access to the Internet is that the satellites orbit so far above the Earth's surface that it takes a very noticeable amount of time for signals to travel back and forth! Because of that satellite Internet is the absolute worst choice for anyone who wants to use their Internet connection for any kind of real time conferencing or online action gaming.

With broad band cable high speed Internet from a cable company like Comcast, none of these problems present themselves. That's because the coaxial cables that carry the signals are better shielded from interference than phone lines, buried underground so that they aren't subject to interference from the atmosphere, and are short enough not to have light speed time lag problems.

In addition to reliability issues, broad band cable high speed Internet is a much better value than the others. For example, Comcast's Internet service is in the same general price range as DSL service, even though DSL is so much slower. High speed Internet from Comcast is actually much cheaper than satellite Internet services. That's because of all of the extra equipment that it takes to send and receive satellite signals, plus the service itself tends to be two or three times as much as broad band cable Internet per month!

While there are always exceptions, the vast majority of people should find that broad band cable high speed Internet through a cable company like Comcast is a no brainer. - 17285
